Firm History

The story of how Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman came to be begins with three exceptionally talented young attorneys who, through hard work and a fair amount of guts, made their professional vision of forming their own law firm a reality.

Mike Rackman met Jim Reisman in 1961, when both worked in the Patent Department of the famed Bell Telephone Laboratories.  A few years later, the two found themselves co-workers yet again, at a small law practice in New York City alongside fellow associate George Gottlieb. Over the course of the next five years, each began to sense that, together, they possessed just the right blend of personality, expertise, and contacts to go out on their own and form an intellectual property boutique.  In 1970, armed with a few used typewriters, one office assistant, and a borrowed telephone number, Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman opened its doors, eager to establish its presence in the legal world.

Attorneys who join the firm stay to become principals.  This marked dedication, echoed by the continued commitment of the founders themselves, remains a rarity in the business world—particularly in the field of intellectual property law.  With some of Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman’s attorneys in their second or third decade with the firm, the strength, experience, and vitality of our closely-knit organization simply cannot be matched.

Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman has also cultivated this kind of loyalty among its clients with a combination of personal attention, careful analysis, and teamwork second to none.  Of our many longstanding clients, several are the second generation in their family to seek out our advice.  Their continued retention of our services may be the truest testimonial to both the standards of excellence we represent and to our significant achievements through the years.

Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman’s attorneys and staff excel in their knowledge of scientific, technological and trade-related fields, while maintaining a solid grasp on the latest developments affecting intellectual property law.  Accessible, resourceful, and highly successful, Gottlieb, Rackman & Reisman advances through its fifth decade much like it did its first: consistently attaining the winning results clients need, want and deserve.
